I’m Beth Van Oss, founder of BHVO Español - where language learning becomes personal, purposeful, and deeply transformative.
My true Spanish speaking journey began while living on the Texas - Mexico border with only basic Spanish skills. From there, I studied in Latin America, fully immersing myself on solo journeys - not with perfect language skills, but with a lot of determination, chutzpah and curiosity. Through those experiences, I discovered the beauty of Latin American culture and how deeply connection changes everything.
I’ve been there. As a native English speaker from Michigan, I’m someone who learned Spanish the way my students did by learning in classroom settings. But without a roadmap. I worked my way through verbs, vocabulary and a lot of guessing.
I am focused on helping adults and motivated learners move beyond memorization and become confident participants in Spanish-speaking life - not just spectators.
With over 3,000 students since 2007, I use a Smart Approach that blends conversation, culture, and mindset to help you build a true connection with the language and find your own voice in Spanish.
